Welcome to the Social Interaction Task!

The following online social platform will allow you to connect with a
pool of other people randomly grouped by computer algorithm.

First, you will be asked to select your personal avatar and enter your
initials.

Then, you will be asked to write and post a campaign for a community club
representative on an online platform similar to real-world social media.
After posting, you will be connected with other participants who are
currently engaged in a separate group study about how people respond
to social media content. These people will view, like, and comment on
your post as they please.

Further instructions will follow.

Thank you!

Please enter the initials of your first and last name

To keep everyone's identity anonymous while completing the task,
please enter your name initials using alphabet characters.

Please select an avatar

This avatar will represent you during the social interaction task, but will not be linked to any of your responses.
Your choice of avatar will not be recorded or analyzed.

Please write your campaign post

Imagine that you are running for community club representative in a group of
peers. As part of your outreach, you intend to write and post about
your campaign on a social media page to ask for votes from the other
students.

Please write your post below to post online. You can talk about your
personal qualities, past experiences, goals and motivations, etc.
And feel free to also come up with any example narratives in your
post, such as "wanting to address the residents' concerns about
street lights," as an example. Please write enough to help other
people better understand who you are and whether you fit for this
community club representative role.

Please note that if the participant objectively demonstrated
clear low-effort (i.e. writing gibberish), the researchers
have the rights to reject your survey submisison.

Social Interaction Task

Soon after connecting, you should be able to see a post page
that is similar to a Facebook post page, or a X(Twitter) tweet page.
You will be able to see your post, the number of likes your post
receives, and a list of comments underneath from others in real time.

Other people online will be viewing, liking, and commenting on your
post as they please. However, please keep in mind that some people
may not both like and comment.

The task will last 3 minutes and is very important to the study, so
please be attentive without switching pages or doing unrelated
tasks. Even though your interaction is minimal, please try to form
an impression of the people interacting with you. Questions about
the task and your experiences may follow.

If these instructions are clear, you can proceed to log in.

Establishing connection

Please wait while you are being connected to the other participants.
